The National Climate Date Center Takes About ~30 Days Before Posting the Months Data
The main purpose of posting Richmond weather records is to make them very accessible.
Corrections are shown by using a second row for the year with double asterisks for months
that have some problem with the data. Many corrections have been made by XMACIS2
Explanation - Observations were started at the Richmond Weather Bureau on October 5, 1897.
Records starting January 1897 are considered official but the NCEI does not have the Richmond
Newspaper Observations so the NCEI used J.C. Shafer Observations for 1897 taken Westbrook Farm
Westbrook Farm (Now a part of Joseph Bryan Park),is four 4 miles NW of Richmond, VA Yr. for 1897.
The NCEI does not like to mix observations from different sources thus the Weather Bureau obs.
for Oct., Nov., & Dec. are not used even though they are both better for location and accuracy.
Wakefield is using the Weather Bureau data for Oct., Nov., & Dec. as they are the better choice.
The links below have observations from the newspaper, Shafer and the Weather Bureau for 1897.
One has the opportunity below to compare the observations for the year 1897 in the following links.
