THE YEAR 2021
    JANUARY 2021 SUMMARY
    
     			   Springfield Park Summary January 2021 
    January was above average most of the first 22 days and was below average the 23rd to the 31st. 
    Jan ended up just a little above average. This is clearly shown on both graphs for January. 
    The mean temp. for January was 38.5°F which was a departure of only 0.9°F and 
    the 5th warmest on record of the past 12 years.  
    The highest daily mean for Jan. was 50.5°F on the 2nd and the 2nd coolest on record for Jan. 
    The average minimum temperature was 28.7°F a 0.9°F departure for January. 
    The highest minimum of only 38.9°F on the 3rd was a -8.7°F departure. 
    The highest maximum of 65.3°F on the 2nd was a -3°F departure for January. 
    The average ground temperature at one foot for January was 42.2°F, only a 0.3°F departure for the month.  
    There were 23 days the minimum temperature was below freezing during the month; the average is 21.3. 
    The minimum of 14.9°F on the 30th was the lowest minimum for the month, an 8.7°F departure. 
    The 32.5°F temperature range on the 21st was the largest temperature range for January and 
    the 4.4°F was the least on the 31st.  
    The highest barometric pressure was only 30.48 inches on January 1st which was the 
    3th lowest maximum pressure ever recorded at this station. 
    The lowest barometer was only 29.54 on the 16th which is the 2nd highest min. pressure on record for January.  
    The Springfield Park station broke only seven 12-year daily records which was much below average for January.

    This was the most snow in January since 2018. 
    The maximum wind for the month was only 26 mph on the 28th which tied for the lowest on record.

    The mean temperature was 39.0°F with a departure of 1.1°F. 
    This was the 50th warmest Jan since 1897. The average maximum temp. was 48.3°F, a departure of 0.9°F. 
    The average minimum temperature was 29.7°F which was a 1.4°F departure.   
    The minimum temp. was 32°F or below on 22 days.  
    The highest min. of Jan. was 39°F on the 3rd and only 9 years since 1897 have had cooler high min. temp. for Jan. 
    The lowest is 30°F recorded in January 1977 which was an extremely cold month. 
    The highest temperature for January was 66°F on the 2nd which was the lowest for Jan since 2016. 
    The minimum temperature for January was 17°F on the 30th.  
    The 33°F range on the 21st was the highest temp. range for January and the lowest was 3°F recorded on the 31st. 
    Only ten times since 1897 has the daily temperature range been less in January.
     The Airport had eleven days with measurable precipitation giving 3.58 inches of precipitation. 
    This was a departure of 0.53 inches and was the 49th wettest January since 1887. 
    The Airport had 3.0 inches of snow on the 31st and 0.2 inches on the 28th. 
    The total of 3.2 inches is the most in January since 2018 when a total of 5.3 inches was recorded. 
    The frozen precipitation departure for January was -0.7 inches.

FEBRUARY
    FEBRUARY 2021 SUMMARY
    
    			     SpringField Park, Glen Allen February 2021
    The mean temperature for Feb. was 38.1°F , a -3.7°F departure, our 3rd coldest February. 
    The warmest day was on the 28th as the daily mean was 49.3°F .  
    There were 22 days below freezing a departure of 4.6 days; the average is 17.4 days. 
    The 10th to 15th and 17th to 22th were cold. Max. temps. had a greater departure due to the cloudiness.  
    The 5.46 inches of precipitation makes this February the wettest on record with a departure of 2.44 inches. 
    The maximum 24-hour precipitation amount was only 0.89 inches. 
    February had 17 days with measurable precipitation which is the most on record. 
    The relative humidity was 74.7 percent the 2nd highest for February. 
    The average temperature range was 15.9°F which was the lowest on record for February. 
    The lowest range was only 2.2 °F on the 12th.
    The maximum wind gust during February was only 24 mph which was a new low reading for the month   
    that occurred on February 7th and 24th. 
    The highest barometer recorded for the month was 30.65 inches, on the 21st and lowest was 29.57 inches on the 2nd. 
    Springfield Park had 6.9 inches of snow in February a +3.3 inch departure. 
    This is the first Feb. since 2015 to have more than the average snowfall for the month.
    

    Springfield Park Winter Season December, January, February 2020-2021
    Winter Season December, January, February 2020-2021 Glen Allen had 14.46 inches of precipitation the 3rd wettest winter in the past 12 winters with a surplus of 4.33 inches. This was the wettest winter since 2009-2010 when 16.52 inches of precipitation was recorded. Average is 10.13 inches. Temperature wise this winter was 0.7°F colder than average. The warmest winter was 44.2°F in 2016-17 and the coldest winter was 2009-10 when the average temperature was 35.9°F .

    Richmond International Airport The Richmond Airport had 4 daily records for February on the 1st, 12th, 13th, 18th all for minimum temp. ranges. The 2°F temp. range on the 12th was rare; no other February in the past 124 years has had a lower range. Because of the cloudiness and precip. the average temp. range was only 14.7°F which was the 5th lowest since 1897. The average maximum temperature of 46.0°F was a -5.3°F departure. The maximum temp. this month was only 68°F on the 24th. The minimum temperature this month was 19°F on the 21st. The average minimum temp. was 31.3°F a departure of 0.8°F . The mean temperature for February was 38.6°F a dep. of negative 2.3°F and the 46th coldest Feb. The total precip. for February was 5.12 inches making it the 12th wettest February since 1887 with a 2.36 inch departure. Feb. had 16 days with measurable precipitation; only 1891 and 1922 had more and the record is 19 days. February had 2.8 inches of snow for the month which was a -0.6 inch departure.

    Richmond Winter Season Dec, Jan, Feb 2020-2021
    Winter Season Dec, Jan, Feb 2020-2021 Richmond had its 67rd warmest winter since 1880 and the 4th wettest winter in the past 148 winters. The Airport had 15.40 inches of precipitation this winter which was a 6.34 inch surplus. The winter season was the wettest winter since 1978-79 when 15.93 inches of precipitation was recorded.



MARCH
    MARCH 2021 SUMMARY
    
    					 
    				    March 2021 - Springfield Park, Glen Allen, VA
    
    March was a little warmer than average and above average precipitation. 
    The mean temperature for March was 51.4°F  which was a departure of 2.7°F .   
    March was the clearest March on record with 2012 coming in a close second. 
    March 2nd to March 14th had no measurable precip. 
    This is why the max. temp. departure was almost 2°F  above the min. temp. departure for the month.  
    The lack of clouds also gave March the highest average daily temp. range on record of 23.7°F . 
    March had two cool periods (5th-8th) & 15th-20th) (See Graph). 
    Springfield Park had 10 days that the minimum temperature was less than or equal to 32°F . 
    The average is 11.6 days. The 85.9°F  on the 26th was the maximum temp. for March. 
    The minimum temperature was 23.2°F  on the 8th. The maximum daily temp. range for March 
    was 40.6°F  on the 10th which was the 3rd highest daily range on record for March. 
    The average ground temperature at one foot for the month was 48.4°F  which was only a -0.1  departure. 
    The average relative humidity was 63.4% which was a negative 0.8% departure for March.
    The 4.42 inches of precipitation for March was a 0.97-inch departure on the 12-year average
     and the 3rd wettest on record.  
    The most precipitation in a one day was 1.15 inches on the 24th. 
    There were 11 days with measurable precipitation which was average for March.  
    The maximum wind gust during March was 35 mph which occurred on the 28th at 1308 hours from the south, 
    which ties for the lowest on record for March. 
    The highest barometer was 30.60 inches on the 20th which is near average for March. 
    The lowest reading was only 29.58 inches on the 18th and 28th which was 
    the 3rd highest minimum reading for Springfield Park on record.
    The average pressure for the month was the highest on record at Springfield Park at 30.17 inches of mercury. 
    There were 2 traces of sleet in March on the 15th and 16th and 1 trace of snow on the 19th.

    The average maximum temperature was 63.2°F  which was 3.2°F  higher than average. 
    The average minimum was 39.1°F  which was 2.0°F  higher than average. 
    The mean temperature for March was 51.2°F  which was 2.6 °F  above the thirty-year mean temperature. 
    This was the 26th warmest March on record since 1897. 
    March had 10 days that the high temperature was greater than or equal to 70°F . 
    The highest temp. was 86°F  on the 26th and the lowest temperature of 24 was on the 6th. 
    This March had 10 days that the minimum temperature was equal to or less than 32°F . 
    The total precipitation for March was 3.89 inches which is a departure of -0.15 inches 
    making it the 49th wettest March since 1887. 
    March had 10 days with measurable precipitation and was the wettest since 2013 when 5.57 inches was recorded.    
    The Richmond International Airport had 2 daily records this March. 
    The 86°F  maximum temperature on 26th was a new high maximum record for the date in March; 
    the previous record was 85°F  in 1939. 
    There have been 21 times since 1897 that March has had such a warm day; 
    the record high maximum for the month of March is 94°F  in 1907. 
    The highest daily temperature range for March was 40°F  on the 9th but the 2nd daily record occurred on the 10th
    with a 39°F  daily temperature range; the previous record for the date was 38°F  in 1930.  
    There were 2 traces of sleet in March on the 15th and 16th.
    
    


APRIL
    APRIL 2021 SUMMARY
    
      					Springfield Park, Glen Allen, VA
    
    It was surprising that April was the second driest April on record with 2.08 inches
     of precipitation which was a departure of -1.37 inches.  
    The driest April was 2010 with 1.94 inches. 
    Measurable precipitation occurred on 11 days. 
    The most precipitation to fall in a 24-hour period was only 0.63 inches which
     is the 2nd least in April in the past 12 years. 
    The least precipitation in a calendar day this month was 0.46 inches which 
    set a new min. record for the month of April.
                The mean temperature of 58.6°F  was a - 0.5°F  departure from the April 12 year average. 
    The average max. temp. was 71.9 which was a 1.1°F  departure. 
    The average min. was 45.3°F  which was a -2.1°F  departure. 
    The clearer and drier April added to spreading the temp. departures and high average daily temp. range for April.  
    The temperature range for April was 26.6°F  which tied the high record for April. 
    Freezing temperatures were recorded on 4 days of the month.   
    The 24.8°F  min. temp. on the 3rd was the lowest min. temp. ever recorded at the Springfield Park station in April in the past 12-years. 
    This killed not only some annuals but also the new spring growth on the rose bushes, tea olive bush, and nandinas. 
    On the other-hand, 69.5°F  on the 29th was the second warmest night ever recorded at this station in April.
                The cloud cover was below average and this was the 3rd clearest April in the past 12 years. 
    The maximum temp. range was 39°F  on April 4th and the minimum range was only 14.8°F  on April 19th. 
    The previous high min. temp. range for April was only 11.7°F  in 2019.
    
    
    
    
    					Richmond International Airport 
    
    The April precipitation total was only 1.34 inches, a departure of -1.93 inches. This was the tenth driest April since 1887.   
    The greatest daily precipitation was only 0.49 inches on the 24th ;only 11 years since 1887 have had less.
    April was the 37th warmest April since 1897 with a mean temperature of 58.9°F  and a departure of 0.7°F  above the average. 
    Freezing temperatures were recorded on 2 days of the month. 
    The average maxmum temperature of 72°F  was a departure of 1.7°F  which was the 27th warmest since 1897. 
    The average minimum temperature of 45.9°F  with a departure of -0.2°F  was the 53rd warmest since 1897. 
    The highest minimum for April was 69°F  on the 29th which tied for the second highest minimum on record for April since 1897. 
    The highest on record was 73°F  which also occurred on the 29th in 2017.  
    The largest daily temp. range for April was 41°F  on the 4th and the lowest daily range was only 14°F  on the 19th. 
    Only 8 Aprils since 1897 have had a higher daily minimum temp. range. 
    The average daily temp. range was 26.1°F  which was a departure of 2.3°F  and was the 21st highest average daily temp. range on record. 
    The Airport had no new daily records or ties for April.      
    The Airport reported no snow in April. The last measurable snow for Richmond in April was one inch on April 7, 2007. 
    The latest measurable snow for Richmond is 0.2 inches recorded on April 21, 1953. 
    The 2.5 inches of snow in the Richmond records on April 28, 1898 is wrong as the snow melted as it fell. 
    The melted precipitation was 0.25 inches and using the 10 to 1 ratio of snow to liquid they recorded 2.5 inches;
     it should have been recorded as a trace of snow. 
    It is the latest known trace of snow recorded in Richmond.
    
       
    


MAY
    MAY 2021 SUMMARY
    
    					Springfield Park, Glen Allen, VA
    May, with 3.48 inches of precipitation, was the 4th driest May on record; the May record is 2.37 inches in 2015. 
    2.33 inches of this precip fell from the 28th to the 30th which was 2/3s of the precip. for the entire month. 
    There was no measurable precip. from May 11th to the 26th a period of 15 days and plants and lawns not watered suffered. 
    Precip fell on only 8 days in May the second lowest number on record.
    May’s mean temperature was 65.2°F  a -3.3°F  departure and the 3rd coolest May on record. 
    Springfield Park had five 90°F  days in May; only 2019 had more with seven.  
    The average maximum temp. was 78.5°F  a -0.3°F  departure but the average minimum was 51.8°F  a negative 6.3°F  
    departure and a new record low average minimum. 
    This shows up nicely in the graph for Springfield Park.  
    This is because of the many clear nights and dry weather giving large temp ranges. 
    The average relative humidity for May was 67% a new record low for May. 
    There were 9 daily temp. range 12-yr. records set in May. 
    The average temp. range was 26.7°F  the highest on record for May. 
    The max. temp. range for May was 36.2°F  on the 15th, only 2 Mays have had higher. 
    The highest temp. for May was 95.5 on the 26th which was a new record high for May.
     The daily mean temp. was 82.7°F  a new record high daily mean for May at this station.  
    The max. heat index on the 26th was also the 3rd highest on record for May. 
    The month’s lowest minimum was 39.4°F  on the 13th.  
    The average ground temp. at 1 foot was 65.6°F  the 4th lowest on record for May.  
    The maximum wind for the month was only 28 mph on the 4th as May had no strong storms.
    May had only 2 days with thunder which was the second least on record for May. 
    The highest barometric pressure was 30.54 on the 21st which was a new record high for May

    Richmond International Airport May will be remembered for its very dry period of 17 days with no measurable rain and the 3rd driest May on record with only 0.60 inches precipitation before the 28th or the driest May since 1936. May in 2020 was also dry with 1.90 inches, the 18th driest May since 1887, and this year was the 25th driest May. The spring season this year had 7.56 inches of precipitation the least since 2012 when only 7.36 inches of precipitation was recorded. But 1.73 inches of rain fell between the 28th and 30th or 74% of the total for the entire month. The mean temp. for May was 65.9°F a -0.5°F dep. which made it the 61st coolest May on record since 1897. The average maximum for May was 79.1°F a 1.2°F departure. The average minimum was 52.7°F a – 2.3°F departure and the 26th coolest May reading since 1897. The maximum temperature for May was 95°F on the 26th; only 6 Mays had higher maximum temps. since 1897. The lowest recorded temperature in May was 42°F on the 8th, 9th, 14th. The lowest daily temperature range for May was 9°F on the 30th and the highest was 36°F on the 2nd, 09th, 20th, 22nd. The average temp. range for May was 26.5°F with only 5 Mays having a higher average since 1897. The Richmond International Airport had 2 daily records that either tied or were broken. 1 Record High Maximum Temperature May 26th 95°F set a new record - the old record 94°F in 1991, 1984, 1953 1 Tied record for the Lowest Daily Mean Temperature May 30th had a daily mean temp. of 55.5°F and tied with May 30th in 2000 and 1971.

JUNE
    JUNE 2021 SUMMARY
    
     					Springfield Park, Glen Allen, VA
    
    The 4.01 inches of rain had a departure of -0.91 inches and June was the 6th driest June on record based on a 13-year average.
    June has been wetter than average for the past 5 years.
    June had two warm periods from the (2nd to the 12th) and the (26th to the 30th).
    The cool period between the two periods nearly balanced out making June near average. (See the Graph)
    The mean temperature for June was 76.3°F  with a 0.3°F  departure and was the 6th warmest June on record in the past 13 years.
    The highest temperature for the month was 96.3F on the 30th and there were 12 days of equal to 90°F  
    or greater which was a 2.3-day departure. 
    There were 12 days the minimum temperature was equal to or greater than 70°F  and the average is 8.7 days. 
    The maximum average temperature for June was 86.4°F  a 0.3°F  departure. 
    Springfield Park had 22 new daily records for the 13 years of records mainly for high minimum temps. 
    The highest daily temperature range in June was 34.7°F  on June 18th which is a new maximum record for June.  
    The minimum daily temperature range for June was only 5.1 degrees F on June 12th which was a new record low for June.
    June was a windy month with a total wind run of 2013.4 miles for the month, the 3rd highest on record. 
    The average wind run for the day of 67.1 miles was also the 3rd highest record for June. 
    This is interesting as the highest wind gust was only 23 mph which is a new record low for June. 
    Springfield Park had no strong thunderstorms but 4 weak thunderstorms. 
    Thunder was heard on only 4 days during June which tied for the 3rd least for June. 
    The highest barometric pressure was 30.38 inches of mercury, the 2nd highest on record for June, 
    and the lowest pressure for June was only 29.63 inches of mercury.

    The Richmond International Airport had 4.02 inches of precipitation for June which was a -0.62-inch departure, 
    making it the 59th wettest June on record since 1887.  
    There were only 9 days with precip. but  2 days with more than one inch of rain on the 9th and 11th.  
    The most rain in a day was 1.36 inches on June 9th.
    The Airport’s mean temperature for June of 76.1°F  was a 1.1-degree F departure from average and
     the 21st warmest June since 1897.  
    The Airport’s maximum temperature average for June was 86.2°F , a 0.6-degree F departure. 
    The Airport’s highest maximum temperature for June was 96 degrees F on the 21th and 30th and 
    the lowest maximum temperature for June was 72 degrees F on the 12th.

    JULY 2021 SUMMARY

    July was the 4th coolest, 4th lowest precipitation and 
    tied for the 2nd least days with measurable precip. in the past 13 years.
    The mean temperature of 80.0°F  which was -0.2 degrees F departure from the 13-year average and 
    the 7th coolest July since 2008. 
    The highest mean temperature for July was 85.9°F  which is the 4th lowest on record. 
    This July had 20 days with temperatures of equal to or greater than 90°F  which is near the July average of 18.3 days.  
    The max. temperature of 96.3 degrees F on the 1st was the 4th lowest on record for July and 
    a departure of -2.9 degrees F. 
    The average maximum temperature for July is 99.2 degrees F at Springfield Park.  
    The high temperature range for July was 27 degrees F on the 4th and 
    the lowest monthly daily temperature range was 13.8°F  on the 8th.

    The highest daily mean temp. was 84.0 degrees F which was the 31st coolest since 1897; 
    the record is 80.5 degrees F set in 1918. 
    The average maximum temperature was 89.2°F  which was a -0.3 degrees F departure.  
    The average minimum was 69.8 degrees F which was a 0.6 degrees F departure for the month.  
    July had 16 days with temperatures of equal to or greater than 90 degrees F. 
    July also had 20 nights the low temperature was 70 degrees F or higher; the average is 14.4 degrees F for the 124-year period.

    August was the 2nd wettest August and only last year was wetter. 
    August had 14 days of measurable precipitation and tied for 3rd place & 
    Aug. was the 3rd most humid on record in the past 13 years.
    The 8.97 inches of rain for August was a +4.01-inch departure based on a 13-year average. 
    August had 2.43 inches on the 7th which was also the most rainfall in a day since Aug. 15th 2020. 
    The monthly mean temperature for August was 79.9°F  which was 2.1°F  departure and
     our 2nd warmest August in the past 13 years. 
    The maximum temperature for August was 96°F  on the 13th and the warmest night was 75.7°F  on the 27th.  
    August had 17 days of equal to or greater than 90°F  heat which tied for 3rd place. 
    The lowest August minimum was 59.7°F  on the 5th and there were 23 nights and 
    the temperature was equal to or greater than 70°F  which was a new record for August. 
    The average temperature range for August was only 18.6°F ; the 13-year average is 19.6°F , 
    a negative departure because of the humid air masses we had. 
    The 72.4 average dew point temperature for August as calculated by 
    the Davis Vantage Pro instrument; it was a new high record. 
    August had an average relative humidity of 78.3%.
    The max. wind gust was only 33 mph on the 13th from the west at 1730 from a local thunderstorm.

    Richmond International Airport The Richmond International Airport’s average mean temperature was 79.9°F a departure of +2.4°F and the 8th hottest August since 1897 and the 9th warmest since 1880 if 1892 is not omitted. The average maximum was 88.9°F , a +1.4°F departure, and the average minimum was 71.0°F which was a 3.4°F departure. Only 3 Augusts have had a higher average minimum temperature since 1880. Only August 1900 and 2005 have had higher min. temps or warmer nights. This August had 15 days with temperatures of equal to or greater than 90°F and 24 nights. The low temperature was equal to or greater than 70°F ; the average is 11 for the 123-year period. The average temperature range for August was only 17.9°F because of the high humidity; only 29 years have had a lower range for August since 1897.      					Springfield Park, Glen Allen, VA
    September with 3.55 inches of precipitation was the 7th wettest September on record in the past 13 years. 
    The wettest September recorded 8.54 inches in 2018 and the driest Sep. had 0.17 inches in 2019.  
    The greatest 24-hour rain was 1.40 inches on the 22nd & 23rd.  
    Sept. had only 8 days with measurable precip; the average is 10 days. 
    The monthly mean temperature was 71.9 degrees F a -0.1 degrees F departure and the 7th warmest on record.
    The ave. maximum temp. was 82.7 degrees F a 1.0 degrees F departure. 
    The ave. minimum was 61.2 degrees F which was a -1.3 degrees F departure.  
    The lowest max. temp. for the Sep. was 75 degrees F on the 9th and was the highest temp. ever recorded 
    at this station for the lowest maximum temp. in the month of Sep. 
    The highest maximum was 92.3 degrees F on the 13th which was -1.4 degrees F below the 13-year average Sep. maximum temp. 
    September’s sky was the 3rd clearest on record in the past 13 years. 
    The average temp. range was 21.6 degrees F which was a departure of +2.3 degrees F & the 2nd highest on record for Sep.  
    This September had only 3 days with temps. greater than or equal to 90 degrees F; in 2019 it was 11 days.  
      The highest wind gust was 34 mph on the 22nd which is a new record for September for the past 13 years. 
    There were 6 days with thunder which is the 2nd highest on record but none of the thunderstorms were severe.

    The Richmond International Airport had 5.79 inches of precipitation which 
    was a departure of 1.18 inches and tied for 27th wettest since 1887. 
    In 2019 the Airport had only 0.42 inches of precipitation for the month, one of the driest on record.
    The Airport had only 8 days with measurable precipitation. 
    The Airport’s max. daily precip. was 1.65 inches on the 16th. 
    The ave. mean temperature was 72.6 degrees F a departure of 1.4 degrees F and the 26th warmest since 1897. 
    The lowest mean temp. for the month was 65.5 on the 24th and the 25th and 
    only 3 Septembers since 1897 have been higher 1921, 2016, and 2002.
    The ave. maximum temp. was 83.1 F, a 1.9 degrees F departure, and 
    the ave. minimum temp. was 62.2 degrees F which was a 1.1 degrees F departure. 
    Sept. 2019 had 12 days with temperatures of greater than or equal to 90 degrees F and this year it was only 2 days. 
    The ave. temperature range was 20.9 degrees F a departure of 0.3 degrees F. 
    The Airport’s highest temperature range for Sept. was only 30 degrees F on the 27th. 
    The highest max. temperature was 92 degrees F on the 13th. The lowest max. temp. for Sept. was 75 degrees F on the 9th 
    and only 2 Septembers have had a higher reading in 1968 and 1954. 
    The record was 78 degrees F in 1968. 
    The lowest minimum temperature was 51 degrees F on the 27th and 
    the highest minimum was 71 degrees F on the 16th, 17th, and 22nd. 
    The Airport averages are for a 30-year period and smoothed out in a decreasing straight line on the graph. 
    Springfield Park is just the average of the 13 past years and is not smooth, a difference you see in the two graphs.

    OCTOBER 2021 SUMMARY

    The October graph shows the first half of October had really small temp. ranges as it was cloudy and 
    the second half was much clearer as shown by the larger temperature ranges.  
    The low temperature ranges of the first part of the month and the high range of the second have balanced each other and
     for the month the temp. range was near average. 
    The graph also shows almost all of the month was above average in temp. for both the max. and min. temps. and
     it was the warmest October on record at the Springfield Park Station. 
    The mean temp. was 65.2 degrees F, a departure of +4.5 degrees. 
    Both the lowest maximum temperature with a 9.5 deg. departure and the lowest minimum with a 6.0 deg. departure set new record highs for October. 
    The average maximum temperature of 75.6 and the ave. minimum temperature of 54.8 both set new record highs.  
    The highest temperature for the month was 86.5 on the 5h and the lowest was only 40.2 degrees on the 19th.
    Oct. had 10 days with measurable precip. and was the 4th driest October on record with only 3.50 inches and a -1.06 inch departure.  
    The average relative humidity was 79.2% ,the 2nd highest on record for October, and a departure of 4.1%.  
    October was the 2nd cloudiest on record for October and the average dew point was 58.4 degrees which set a new record high for the month
    The maximum wind gust of 30 mph for October was from the SSW on October 16th which was associated with an approaching cold front.

    The Richmond International Airport’s average mean temperature was 65.9 F, a departure of 5.9 degrees, 
    the 4th warmest October since 1897 and 5 warmest October since 1880. 
    The average maximum was 75.6 degrees, a 4.7 deg. departure, and 
    the average minimum was 56.3 degrees which was a 7.3 deg. departure and was the 3rd warmest since 1897. 
    October’s highest temperature was 86 degrees on the 3rd.  The warmest day was the 4th with a daily mean of 75.5 degrees. 
    The lowest maximum temperature for October was only 64 degrees on the 30th. 
    This is the warmest low maximum temp. ever recorded for October since 1897; 
    the previous record was 63 degrees for October in 1995. 
    The lowest monthly minimum temp. was only 43 F on the 19th. 
    This is the highest minimum temp. ever recorded for October since 1897; 
    the previous record was 41 degrees for October in 1897,1919 and 1971. 
           The Richmond International Airport had no daily records for the month. (Records since 1897).   
            The Airport had 5.61 inches of precipitation, a departure of 2.22 inches, with 9 days of measurable precipitation. 
    This October was the 20th wettest on record at the Airport since 1887. 
    The 2.14 inches of rain on the 6th was the Airport’s wettest day and 
    was the 17th largest calendar day precip. on record for October since 1897.

    November had only 0.51 inches precip. and was the driest Nov. since 2012 when only 0.46 inches was recorded. 
    This is the least precip. in any month since Sept. 2019. 
    The max. precip. in a day, 24 -hour period, and 1 hr. period where all new records for Nov. 
    Nov. had a negative 3.11-inch precip. departure. 
    Precipitation occurred on only 5 days in November, the 2nd lowest on rec. for Nov., and it was the 3rd clearest Nov. on record.  
    2010 was the clearest Nov. on record. 
    The afternoons this month were particularly clear and set a new record for Nov. 
    This November’s mean of 46.6 degrees F, a departure of -2.5 degrees from the 13-year ave., was the 6th coldest on record. 
    The clear skies gave the 2nd highest ave. temp. range for the month of Nov. of 25.6 degrees. 
    The highest daily mean temp. was 65 degrees on the 18th the warmest day. 
    The highest maximum temperature for November was 77.6 degrees on the 18th. 
    This month also had 7 days equal to or warmer than 70 degrees. 
    The average maximum temperature was 59.4 F with a departure of negative 1.1 degrees. 
    The ave. min. temp. was 33.8 degrees which was the 2nd lowest on record for November 
    and only 0.5 degrees above the record minimum. 
    The lowest minimum was 21.3 degrees recorded on the 24th. 
    The highest minimum was 52.3 degrees which was a 6.3 degrees departure and the 3rd lowest on record. 
    There were 13 days that the minimum temperature was less than or equal to 32 F which was 4 days above the average. 
    The graphs both show about 22 days the min. temp. was below the average. 
    There was no snow recorded in November at Springfield Park. 
    The maximum wind gust was only 26 mph from the SSW on the 18th. The highest barometer was 30.60 inches on the 20th 
    and the lowest was 29.77 inches on November 26th.

The 0.70 inches of precipitation was a departure of -2.36 inches making this month the 13th driest November since 1887. This was the driest Nov. since 2012 when only 0.27 inches was recorded; 2012 was the 4th driest Nov. on record since 1887. November had only 6 days with measurable precipitation. The Airport’s greatest daily precipitation was only 0.24 inches on the 18th. The most precip. in 24 hrs. was only 0.24 inches and only 5 years have had less in Nov. since 1887. There was no snow in November at the Airport. The highest temp. was 77 degrees on November 18th and the lowest temperature was 25 F on the 24th. The average maximum was 60.4 degrees which was a departure of -0.7 degrees. The average min. was 35.7 degrees which was a departure of -3.1 degrees. The highest monthly minimum was 48 degrees on the 18th. Only 4 Novembers have been lower 1917, 2021, 2019, and 1910 was the record with 45 degrees.     December was the second warmest and second driest on record at Springfield Park as the monthly mean temperature was 48.4 F, 
    a +6.1 degrees F departure from the 13-year average.  
    The average max, min and mean for December were all the 2nd highest on record with 2015 being the record. 
    The average maximum temp. was 59.3 degrees F a +7.3 degrees F departure. 
    December had 6 days of equal to or higher than 70 F and 9 days of equal to or higher than 65 degrees F. 
    On 15 days the minimum temperature dropped to freezing or below; the average is 17.4 days for Dec. 
    The lowest temperature was 22.8 degrees F occurring on the 23rd and the highest was 73 degrees F on the 17th.
    The highest barometric pressure of the month was 30.59 inches recorded on the 14th. 
    The lowest was only 29.60 inches of mercury which tied for the highest minimum due to the lack of strong storm systems. 
    The max. wind gust was 29 mph on the 11th ahead of a cold front.
    December had only 2 traces of sleet on the 8th and 19th and no snow. 
    The precipitation total for the month was only 1.43 inches a departure of -2.84 inches; only 2017 had a lower total with 0.99 inches. 
    There were 9 days with measurable precipitation in December.

    The mean temperature for the Richmond International Airport was 48.9 degrees F which was a +7.1 degrees F departure 
    and the 3rd warmest December since 1880.  
    The record mean temperature was 52.1 degrees F in 2015 and 2nd place is 51.2 degrees F in 1889. 
    Four record high daily minimum temps. are listed below. 
    This Dec. is the first time I have seen 6 days that the min. temp was warmer than the ave. max. temp. for the date. 
    (See the graph for the Airport). 
    December lowest max. temp. was 42 degrees F on the 21st; only 3 Decembers have had a higher reading since 1897.
    The lowest temp. for Dec. was 25 degrees F. 
    No other year since 1897 has had a higher minimum temp. for Dec. Only 2015 and 1956 have had a higher average min. temp. for Dec.       
    The 1.07 inches of precipitation for December made it the 12th driest December since 1887 and the 14th driest since 1880.  
    December had a trace of frozen precip. on Dec. 8th. 
    The total precipitation for the year was 49.25 inches which was a +3.75-inch surplus for 2021.
