THE YEAR 2015
    JANUARY 2015 SUMMARY
    			January 2015 Glen Allen
    January’s monthly mean temperature was 35.5 F, a negative 1.4 F departure and 
    there were 2 days that the maximum temperature was 32 F or less. 
     January had 24 days that the minimum temperature was 32 F or lower. 
    The 7 F on the 8th is the third lowest temperature recorded for January.
     On January 7th the dew point fell to -12.2 F the 3rd lowest for any month at Glen Allen. 
     Only one day had a temperature of more than 60 F.  
    The highest temperature this month was 67 F recorded on January 4th.
     The maximum of 26 F on the 8th was the lowest maximum for the month.
     The 31 F temperature range on the 20th was the largest temperature range for January.  
    The average temperature range was the lowest since 2011 and this was caused in part by cloudiness. 
    This was also the cloudiest January since 2011.
        The highest barometric pressure was 30.70 inches on January 11th
     which was the highest pressure ever recorded in January; the old record was 30.64 inches in 2009.
       The average relative humidity for January was 62.1 percent, the second lowest on record, and
     the average maximum relative humidity was 82.7 which
     set a new record low maximum relative humidity for January.
     Also on January 10th the relative humidity was 18 percent the lowest ever recorded at Glen Allen.

         The precipitation for January was 3.10 inches which was nearly average but had a departure of
     - 0.03 inches with ten days with measurable precipitation.
         The snowfall for January was 2.0 inches which was 3.2 inches below the average.  
    The maximum wind for the month was 33 mph on the 4th.
    
    			The Richmond International Airport
    
             The Airport set only one new daily record for January. 
     January 18th set a maximum precipitation amount for the date with 1.54 inches; 
    the old record was 1.43 in 1980. 
     This was the 25th largest daily January rainfall amount since 1887.
            The highest temperature range for the month was only 29 degrees on the 20th. 
    Only ten years have had a lower daily range in temperature for the month in the past 118 years.
      The average daily temperature range this January was 17.5 F and the average is 19 F.
            The 0.3 inches of snow for the month was the least since 2012.
           The total precipitation for January was 3.49 inches which was +0.45 inches 
    above the average making it the 48th wettest January since 1887.
              The mean temperature at the Richmond International Airport was 37.3 F, 
    21st warmest January in the past 118 years.  
    
    
            
    
    
    
FEBRUARY
    FEBRUARY 2015 SUMMARY
    
    February 2015 Glen Allen
              February was the coldest February on record with the monthly mean temperature of 30.7 F,
     a negative 10 F departure making it the coldest month ever at the Glen Allen station and even 1.9 F 
    colder than the coldest January mean.  
    There were 6 days that the maximum temperature was 32 F or less; the previous record was only 1 day for February. 
    February had 15 days that the minimum temperature was 20 F or lower; the previous record was only 6 days for February.
     The -1.2 F minimum on the 20th was the all-time station record lowest temperature. On February 20th 
    the dew point fell to -14.6 F which was also an all-time station record for Glen Allen. 
       The highest temperature this month was an impressive72 F recorded on February 8th for such a cold month.
     The maximum temperature of only 21.1 F on the 16th was another all-time station record.
     The 20th was also the coldest day at this station for any month with a daily mean of 10.9 F; 
    the previous record was 14.5 F on January 7, 2014. 
     The average maximum, minimum and mean were all-time station records. 
    The average mean for February was even -2.7 F lower than the lowest January mean. 
    Glen Allen set 51 new six year daily records for the month of February
         The precipitation for February was 3.55 inches which was a departure of +1.04 inches. 
    Only two other Februarys have had more precipitation.
         The snowfall for February was 11.2 inches which was 6.3 inches above the average and 
    the most snow in February since 2010 with 16.1 inches.
         The maximum wind for the month was 36 mph on the 14th ahead of a strong Arctic cold front.
          A new record barometric pressure of 30.87 inches on February 28th set a new all-time
     high pressure record for the Glen Allen station. 
    The average pressure for February was a new record high and it was the windiest 
    February on record with also the lowest average relative humidity. 
    Many of these records can be contributed to the many February Arctic fronts affecting Glen Allen.

    			The Richmond International Airport
    The Airport set nine new daily records for February. Four were record low daily means 
    (coldest days) for the date on the 16th, 19th, 20th and 21st.
     Three records were set for record low maximums on the 16th, 19th and 21st. 
    The other two were for record low minimums for the date on February 19th and 21st. 
    The Airport had a 67  temperature range for the month from the maximum of 71  on the eighth 
    to a minimum of 4 F on the 20th and 21st.
     The following records were established for the 118 year period. The average maximum was 41.6 F; 
    only five years have had a lower average maximum temperature and the record was 37.6 F set in 1934. 
    The lowest maximum for the month was 21 F on the 20th;
    only five years have recorded lower maximum temperatures in February.
     The average minimum temperature was 20.9 F and only three years in the past 118 years had a lower minimum average.  
    The highest minimum temperature for the month was 36 ; only four years were lower and the current record was 31 F in 1978. 
    The lowest minimum temperature recorded was 4 F and only 10 Februarys have had a lower minimum temperature. 
    The mean for the month was 32.0 F making it the fifth coldest February in history. 
    It was also the coldest February since 1979 when the mean temperature was 28.6 F.
     The coldest February was in 1934 with a mean average of 28.2 F. 
    The lowest daily mean was 12.5  on the 20th and only six years have had a colder February day.  
    The Airport recorded 3.77 inches of precipitation for the month a departure of 1.01 inches 
    making it the 38th wettest February in the past 118 years.
     Measurable snowfall at the Richmond International Airport this past February was 12.2 inches 
    making it the ninth snowiest February in Richmond records and the most snow in February since 1989.
     The 6.2 inches of snow that fell on the 16th was the 13th largest daily snow recorded in Richmond for February.

    				Comments on Winter Season
       From the two winter season charts it can be seen that overall the winter was 
    much below average primarily because of the month of February. 
    The Airport received more precipitation than Glen Allen as the Airport is somewhat closer to the coastal storms. 
    The following also accounts for the larger snowfall total at the Airport as compared to Glen Allen.
     It is also interesting to note that February’s mean temperature was more than 5  colder than January 2015.
     February, being the fifth coldest in 118 years, 
    skewed the results of the winter season to be much colder than average.
    
    
MARCH
    MARCH 2015 SUMMARY
    
    					Glen Allen Summary March 2015
    
    March was the third coolest and second driest on record at Glen Allen as the 
    monthly mean temperature was 46.2  F, a -2.0  F departure based on a 6 year average. 
     Glen Allen had 9 days the minimum temperature was <=32  F. 
    The first week of March was VERY cold and many mornings were cloudy particularly in the last two weeks.
    There were 22 cloudy mornings make this March the cloudiness on record at Glen Allen.
    The maximum temperature for March was 78 degrees F on the 17th. 
    During the warm March of 2012, Glen Allen had 6 days that the maximum temperature was 80  F or more.  
    The minimum temperature for March was 14 F on the 6th which was the third lowest minimum temperature for March. 
    The temperature range for March on the 7th was 37.5 F which was the third highest for the month at this station. 
    The average ground temperature at one foot was 45.5 F a -2.5 F departure and the third lowest for March;
    the record was 44.0 F. 
    The 3.43 inches of precipitation for March was a -0.86 inch departure on the 6 year average. 
    The most precipitation in a 24 hour period was only 1.05 inches which was the third lowest amount for March. 
    Of the 14 days with measurable rain 8 were less than or equal to only 0.10 inches. 
    There were no heavy precipitation events with the most measured in one hour being only 0.16 inches.
    The total snowfall was 1.5 inches for the month a departure of -2.8 inches for March.
    The maximum wind gust during March was 41 mph which occurred on the 31st at 1545 hours from the SSW.
    The average relative humidity for March was 62.3 percent the third lowest for the month. 
    The highest barometer was 30.76 inches on the 1st the highest on record for March at Glen Allen.
    
    				   Richmond International Airport 
    The mean temperature for March was 47.6 F which was the 59th coolest March since 1897.
    The mean temperature for March was -1.0 F below the thirty year mean temperature for March. 
    This March had 5 days that the high temperature was greater than or equal to 70  F but March 2012 had 19 days. 
    This March had 9 days that the temperature was 32 F or less and 2012 had only 3 days. 
    The lowest overnight minimum for this month was 16 F on the 6th. The daily mean for March 6th was 23.5 F; 
    only seven years have had a colder March day. 
    The high temperature for March 6th was 31 F; only 7 years of the past 118 years 
    have had a lower March maximum temperature.
    The temperature maximum temperature range for March 31st was 43 F which was a new record for the date. 
    The old record was a 41 F range in 1941.
    March was drier than average with 3.78 inches of precipitation which was a deficit of 0.23 inches.  
    This made March the 54th wettest March since 1887. 
    The total snow for March was 0.3 inches which was a deficit of 0.3 inches on the 30 year average.

    March 28, 2015   36.0 F new record low daily mean the old record was 37.0  F in 1982.
    March 31, 2015   43 F new record maximum temperature range the old record was 41 F in 1941.
    
    

APRIL
    APRIL 2015 SUMMARY
    
    					West Henrico Co. - Glen Allen, VA 
    
    April was slightly cooler than average by -0.6 F. 
    The monthly mean temperature for April was 58.4 F the third lowest on record for April.
    April was the third wettest at Glen Allen with a total of 3.13 inches, 
    a departure of -0.29 inches based on the average of the past 6 years.
    Measurable precipitation occurred on 10 days and none was intense as the most rain to fall
     in an hour was 0.26 inches and 0.06 inches in five minutes.
    The cloud cover and average relative humidity were both a little more than average for April.
    The high temperature for April was only 81 F on the 18th which was a new record for 
    the lowest maximum temperature for the month of April; previous record was 83 F in 2014.
    This was April’s only 80 degree day; the previous 6 year record for the least was 3 in 2014.
     The lowest maximum temperature was 50 F which tied with 2009 for an April record. 
    The warmest nights were April 3rd and 20th both with a low of 62 F 
    which tied with last year for the lowest in the past six years. 
    The maximum daily temperature range was only 34 F which tied with 2011 for the lowest on record for April. 
    The lowest minimum was 32 F recorded on the 5th and there were two days with frost which were the 5th and 24th.
    The highest daily mean temperature of 70.8  F occurred on the 18th which was the second lowest on record. 
    The maximum wind gust was 33 mph from the SSW that occurred on the 22nd at 1430 preceding a cold front.
    
    
    					Richmond International Airport
    The Airport had one tied daily record for the highest minimum temperature on April 20th with 65 F 
    that also occurred in 1927, 1941 and 2002. 
    The lowest minimum temperature at the Airport was 33  F on the 5th. 
    The highest temperature in April was 83 F occurring on the 10th and 18th which tied for the lowest since 2000.
    The lowest maximum temperature for April in the past 118 years is 80 F which occurred in 2000, 1933, 1918, and 1911. 
    The coldest day in April was on the 25th with a daily mean of 48 F 
    which was a departure of 5.8 F warmer than average. 
    Only four years in the past 118 years have had an April day on which 
    the lowest daily mean temperature for the month was warmer.
    The Richmond International Airport’s April mean temperature was 59.5  F 
    which was a departure of negative 1.3 F and was the 26th warmest April since 1897.
    Their precipitation total was 5.33 inches which was a departure of +2.06 inches. 
    Only 10 Aprils in the past 128 years have been wetter. 
    It is interesting that the Airport had 2.20 inches more precipitation than Glen Allen during April. 
    
    
           
    
MAY
    MAY 2015 SUMMARY

    May’s mean temperature was 70.5 F a + 2.1  F departure and the warmest on record for Glen Allen. 
    The maximum temperature for May was 90 F on the 18th and the minimum was 45 F on the 3rd.
    The 45 F was the warmest May minimum on record.
    The average maximum was 81.3 F also a new record high for Glen Allen. 
    May was also the clearest on record and had only eight days with measurable rainfall: 
    the previous record was 10 days.
    May’s precipitation was only 2.37 inches a departure of negative 1.88 inches and the driest May on record.
    The average barometer for May was 30.14 inches the highest on record. 
    The highest barometer on the 23rd was 30.48 inches and new record maximum.
    The lowest barometer of 29.79 inches on May 1st was also a new maximum record. 
    The average relative humidity 68.5 percent for May was the second lowest on record.
    The maximum wind gust was only 22 mph on May 12th & 25th a new low wind speed record for May. 
    The daily average maximum wind was 16 mph; the previous low record was 16.7 mph.

    				Richmond International Airport
    
    The Airport’s mean temperature of 71.5 F was the 6th warmest May since 1880. 
    The five years that were warmer in order were 2004, 1896, 1880, 1991, 1944. 
    It is interesting that the average minimum of 60.5 F was the 2nd warmest 
    and the average maximum of 82.6 F was only the 11th warmest.
    It was the warm nights of May that placed it in the top 10 warmest Mays. 
    The maximum temperature range for May was 30 F on the 2nd ;
    only 2011 with a low range of 29 F was less since 1897.
    The Airport’s precipitation for May was 1.61 inches the 14th least rain since 1887 
    and a total of 0.76 inches less than Glen Allen.
    Last month they had 2.20 inches more than Glen Allen and 1.80 inches more than Glen Allen for the spring season. 
    The Airport had only 6 days with measurable precipitation in May which is the least since 1965 
    and four years have had less since 1887.
    The four were 1911 - 5 days, 1914 - 5 days, 1965 - 4 days, and the record 1936 with only 3 days.
    The Richmond International Airport had five new daily records that either tied or were broken as listed below.

    The spring average of 59.5 F makes the spring of 2015 the 15th warmest since 1880 
    as March was the only month that had below average temperatures.
     The 10.72 inches of spring precipitation made this spring the 80th wettest since 1872 or in 143 years. 
    The departure of +5.1 F for the month of May at the Airport is much higher than Glen Allen’s 
    as May has been warmer in recent years and Glen Allen has a small and recent data base.
    
    

JUNE
    JUNE 2015 SUMMARY
    
    					 Glen Allen
    
    June was the wettest June on record at the Glen Allen station.
     The 8.35 inches monthly precipitation was a departure of +4.96 inches. 
    The mean temperature of 76.5 F was a +0.2 F departure. Glen Allen had 16 days in June with measurable precipitation 
    which tied for the record and no other months have had more.   
    The Glen Allen station has had 2.30 inches more rain this month than the Richmond International Airport.
     Glen Allen had 4 days that had at least one inch of rain which is a record for June and none of the months have any more. 
    Thunderstorms have caused varying rainfall amounts over the region. Thunder was heard on eight days during June. 
    The thunderstorm of June 25th was a severe electrical storm that gave 2 close strikes near our house 
    that threw one circuit breaker and it could be a coincidence but one computer’s hard drive failed the same night.  
     June was the third cloudiest since 2009. This fact helped that June had the highest relative humidity average for June 
    caused the month to have the lowest temperature range on record at Glen Allen.
      The highest temperature for the month was 96 F on the 16th and the lowest temperature was 57 on the 29th.  
    The highest dew point temperature for June was 79.7 F on the 16th which occurred after an afternoon shower 
    following the hottest day of the month. 
    The maximum wind for the month was 35 mph on the 30th from the SSW as a thunderstorm approached the station. 
    This was the second highest high wind gust recorded for June.
    
    				Richmond International Airport
    
    The Richmond International Airport had 6.05 inches of precipitation for June which was +2.12 inch departure. 
    The 6.05 inches of precipitation for June was the tenth wettest June in the past 128 years. 
    The Richmond International Airport reported the mean temperature for June of 77.9 F
     which was a +2.6 F temperature departure and the sixth hottest since 1897. 
    The Richmond International Airport has had four (2008, 2010, 2011, 2015) of our 7 hottest Junes since 1897 and it was the 8th hottest since 1880.
     It is also interesting that of the 8th hottest Junes four have occurred since 2008.
     The Airport had eight daily records for the highest or equaled the high minimum temperature and high daily mean temperature.

    The highest daily maximum temperature of 100 F on the 23rd. 
    Only 11 years had a higher maximum temperature in June.  
    The average minimum for June was 68.1 F and only two years 1997 
    and 1900 had a higher minimum average.
    The lowest daily temperature range for June was 4 F which occurred on June 3rd 
    and the only years in June with less were 1999, 1941 and 1901.  
    June had 18 precipitation days and only two Junes in the past 118 years 
    have had a greater number of measureable precipitation days.
    From 1880 to the present the 77.92  F average mean temperature for June 
    makes this June the 7th warmest June in 134 years.
     
    
    


JULY
    JULY 2015 SUMMARY
    
    						West Henrico - Glen Allen, VA  
              This July was much like July 2013 which was also wet and humid.
    This July was the second wettest and the second most humid July on record at the Glen Allen station.
    July 2013 was wetter and more humid with an average humidity of 74.8% which was only +1.1% more than this July.
    July 2013 was cloudier and the only one with a lower average temperature range than this July. 
    July’s mean temperature was 78.4 the 3rd coolest July on record; only 2009 and 2014 were cooler.
    The lowest July maximum was 78 F on July 9th which was not only the lowest maximum on record for the date 
    but the 3rd lowest for any July date at this station.
    The lowest minimum temperature during July was 62 F on July 16th and the highest temperature was 95 F on the 19th and 20th. 
    The highest dew point temperature this month was 79.4 F on the 19th;
    this was the 3rd highest dew point recorded in July in the past 7 years.
    The 29.57 barometer on the 14th and 15th set a new record low reading for July which was associated with a strong squall line
    that some referred to as a weak derecho that moved from MN, KY, WV and south-west Virginia passing to our SW giving no impact to our area.
    The 5.15 inches of monthly precipitation was a departure of +1.13 inches.  
    From June 30th to July 6th Glen Allen had 7 consecutive days with measurable rainfall and
    from July 16th to and including July 26th Glen Allen had 11 days with only 0.01 inches of rain; both being unusual.
    The mean temperature was -1.6 F below the average and the 3rd coolest in the past 7 years. 
    There were only seven 90 F days which set a new low record for July. 
    Glen Allen had 15 days in July with measurable precipitation which tied the record for July; the previous record was set in 2013. 
    The maximum precipitation recorded in a day was 1.43 inches which took 3rd place; the record for the day is 2.42 inches in 2013.  
    Thunder was heard on only 5 days during July, the second least on record for July and the average is 6.8 days. 
    
    						Richmond International Airport
    
           July at the Airport was the coolest since 2009 but humid. The high humidity and cloudiness made for warmer nights and lower temperatures for the days. 
    The average temperature range was 17.5 F the 11th lowest on record in the past 118 years. The record is only 1.1 F lower which occurred in 1959.  
    The average maximum was 88.0 F a departure of -1.7 F and the 67th warmest in the past 118 years.
     The average minimum was 70.5 F a departure of +1.6 F and the 15th warmest in the past 118 years. 
    The mean temperature was 79.2 F a departure of -0.1 F and the 37th warmest in the past 118 years. 
    The lowest daily mean occurred on July 8th which was a warm 74.0 F which was the 8th highest in July since 1897.
    The only daily record for the month was a record high minimum temperature of 78 F on the 9th and
    only 6 Julys in the past 118 have had a higher minimum temperature; the previous record was 77 F in 1907.
    The 5.89 inches of rainfall made it the 39th wettest July in the past 118 years.  
    July had 14 days of measurable rainfall; only 22 Julys in the past 118 have had more days of measurable rainfall.
    This July was also the wettest at the Airport since 2005 when 9.28 inches was recorded. The 5.89 inches was a departure of +1.38 inches for the month.
     
    


AUGUST
    AUGUST 2015 SUMMARY
    
    				August 2015 Glen Allen
    
    The monthly mean temperature for August was 76.4  F, a -0.9  F mean temperature departure based on
    a seven-year average and the third lowest on record.
    The 1.83 inches of rain for August was a negative 2.91 inch departure based on a seven-year average
    and the driest August on record.
    The most rainfall in a calendar day was 0.61 inches, in 24 hours was 0.92 on the 9th and 10th 
    and in one hour was 0.26 inches which were all record low amounts.
    The month had 8 precipitation days the second least number of days on record.
    The maximum temperature for August was only 95 F on the 4th.  
    The lowest minimum was 59 F recorded on the 28th.
    The maximum wind gust was only 23 mph on the 4th as there were no strong thunderstorms.
    Thunder was only heard 3 days which tied for a record minimum.
    Before drawing too many conclusions between these tables, note Glen Allen has a six-year average 
    and the Richmond International Airport uses a 30-year average.
    The six year average temperature of this station includes the very hot summers of 2010 and 2011.
    It is interesting that Glen Allen had the wettest June 
    and the second wettest July followed by the driest August on record. 
    August was 1.82 inches drier than the previous driest August and had a -2.91 inch 
    departure from the average. 
    Thus the summer was cooler than average with an average departure of negative 0.8 F.  
    August was also wetter than average with a +1.06 inch departure and a

    2.56 inches was recorded and was the 35th driest August in the past 128 years. 
    The Richmond International Airport had an August mean temperature of 77.5  F 
    and was the 43rd warmest August. 
    The Richmond International Airport tied with 2012, 1989, and 1915 for the high daily minimum of 75 F on the 5th
    which was the only daily record. 
    The lowest maximum temperature for the month was 78  F on the 7th and the highest maximum was 96  F on the 4th. 
    The coolest August day was the 28th with a daily mean of 73.5.
    Only August 5th of 1900 had a higher daily mean for the coolest day in August.
    The summer averaged +1.1 F warmer than average and precipitation averaged +0.70 inches above average

    September was much drier than average for the first 24 days then turned cloudy and wet. 
    The first ten days were very warm and dry for September followed by a 3 day cool period then 
    average temperatures until the 20th followed by cool days but warm nights for the rest of the month.
    Overall September was warmer and wetter than average when compared to the seven year average.
    The monthly mean temperature was 72.9 F a +1.9 F departure when compared to the average. 
    The lowest minimum temperature was 47 F on the 14th and was only 1 F below 
    the record average minimum temperature for September.
    The month’s maximum temperature of 95 F on September 2 was 2 F above the six year average monthly maximum. 
    The 4.19 inches of precipitation for September was a +0.59 inch departure with 11 days of measurable precipitation.
    Eleven is the second largest number of measurable precipitation days for September on record -
    yet September was very dry until the 25th as 59% of the month’s precipitation occurred in the last 5 days. 
    The maximum wind gust was 24 mph on the 30th which was the 3rd lowest on record.
    The highest barometer reading was 30.40 which tied the 7 year maximum for September and 
    the lowest September barometer was 29.67 inches which was only 0.05 inches from being the highest minimum reading for the month.

    The September mean temperature was 74.4 F which was the 9th warmest September 
    since 1897 and the 12th warmest since 1880.
    The highest temperature this month was 95 F recorded on September 2nd.  
    The lowest minimum temperature was 52 F and only five years have had a higher minimum temperature since 1897.
    The lowest daily mean temperature was 64.5 F on the 14th.  
    Only 4 years 1921, 1933, 1968, 2002 were higher than this in the past 118 years. 
    The Richmond International Airport recorded 3.43 inches of rain and the 30 year average

         October’s description -
    The month started out cloudy, damp and wet with low temperature ranges and ended  much the same with 5 days of rain.
    Glen Allen had the wettest October on record. 
    Only October 2008 had a lower mean temperature in the past seven years.
    However, there was no rain from October 11 to the 24th and only 0.12 inches in a 20 day period. 
    During this period it was sunny with large temperature ranges and heavy dews and one killing frost on October 18th. 
    The monthly mean temperature was 58.1 F a -1.5 F departure when compared to the seven year average and only - 0.6 F above the 2008 record. 
    The lowest minimum temperature was 29.9 F on the 18th from a high pressure that topped out at 30.56 inches
    which was the second highest on record for October.
    The month’s maximum temperature was only 80 F on October 22nd ;this was the lowest maximum temperature on record for October. 
    The 4.66 inches of precipitation for October was a +1.40 inch departure with 10 days of measurable precipitation. 
    The maximum wind gust was 29 mph on the 2nd which tied for the seven year lowest maximum October wind speed. 
    However, the total wind run for October was the highest on record for the month of 2096.4 miles. 
    The highest one day wind run was 271 miles also a record and the average wind run in a day was a record.
    
    					Richmond International Airport
    
    The Richmond Airport had one daily record this month.
    The 4 F minimum temperature range on the 2nd was the lowest for the date;
    the previous record was 5 F in 1971 and 1958. 
    Only 15 years in the past 118 years have had a lower temperature range for the month of October and the record is 2 F. 
    The maximum temperature for the month was 81 F on the 9th. 
    This is a lowest monthly maximum for October since 2003 and only 9 years have had a lower maximum reading.
    The October mean temperature was 57.9 F which was the 30th coolest October since 1897 and was a -2.1  departure from average. 
    The lowest minimum temperature was 33 F. 
    The Richmond International Airport recorded 3.24 inches of rain for October making it the 54th wettest in the past 128 years.

    This November was the second warmest on record (records since 2008) as the monthly mean temperature was 53.2  F,
     a +4.8  F mean temperature departure when compared with Glen Allen’s seven year average. 
    The average barometric pressure for November was a new record high of 30.22 inches.
     The Mid-Atlantic was under high pressure for most of the month giving warm temperatures for Nov.
    Precipitation occurred on 10 days in November with a total of 5.03 inches which was
    the 2nd greatest on record for Glen Allen with a departure of +1.07 inches and was the 3rd consecutive month with above average precipitation.
     The maximum temperature for November was 79 F on the 6th which was a new record monthly maximum.  
    The lowest minimum was 26 F recorded on the 24th.  
    The daily mean temperature on the 6th was 70.9 F which made it the warmest November day on record at Glen Allen.
     There were only 5 days that the minimum temperature was less than or equal to 32  F which was the 2nd least on record with only 2009 having less. 
     The maximum barometer reading for the month was the highest on record for November at 30.81 inches occurring on the 26th. 
    The highest dew point for the month was 68  F on the 5th which was the highest dew point recorded in November. 
     The maximum wind gust was only 27 mph on the 6th the third lowest for November.

    Glen Allen had the wettest autumn since 2009 when the fall season had 17.20 inches of precipitation.
    The precipitation surplus for the fall season was 3.06 inches based on a 7 year average.

    The average November maximum temperature was 63.3 which was the 19th warmest since 1897. 
    The average November minimum temperature was 42.7 F which tied for the 10th warmest since 1897. 
    The Airport’s mean temperature for Nov. was 53.0  F which was the 13th warmest November in the past 118 years. 
    The 3.91 inches of precipitation recorded this month was the 31st wettest Nov. of the past 128 years.
     November had a total of 11 days with measurable precipitation but 5 of these were less than 0.11 inches.
     Only one daily record was set for Richmond during November. On November 2nd the 3 F temperature range tied the old record set in 1925.
     The 30th also had a temperature range of 3 F but it wasn’t a record as 3 years had a two degree range in (1920, 1963, and 1986).

  • DECEMBER 2015 SUMMARY

        December was the warmest and second wettest on record at Glen Allen as the monthly mean temperature was 
    52.8  F, a +11.2  F departure from the seven-year average. 
    December had its highest maximum of 76.2  F on December 12th and had 8 days of =70 F and 12 days of =65 F both being new records. 
    On only 6 days did the minimum reach freezing or below which was a new record for December.
    The lowest temperature was 25 F occurring on the 20th; only 2011 equaled this high minimum and no other Decembers had a higher value. 
    The highest barometric pressure of the month was 30.74 inches recorded on the 5th. 
    Almost all of the records for warmth were broken at Glen Allen in its short 7-year database. 
    December didn’t even record a trace of snow. 
    The precipitation total for the month was 6.15 inches; only 2009 was higher with 8.44 inches. 
    There were 14 days with measurable precipitation in December, tying the record.
     The total precipitation for the year was 50.93 inches. This was a +5.78 inch surplus. 
    This was also one of the cloudiest Decembers with the last ten days of the month being cloudy. 
    This month also had the highest average relative humidity of 80.2%, a new record not just for December but for all months.  
    This was a factor in giving this month the lowest daily average temperature range for December of 18.1 F. 
    
    					Richmond International Airport
    
    The mean temperature for the Richmond International Airport was 52.1  F which was the warmest in the past 135 years (Records since 1880).
     The previous record was 51.2  F in 1889. The minimum temperature of 65 F on the 24th set a new high minimum for December; 
    the previous record was 63  F on Dec 8, 1951. 
    Christmas day was the warmest on record for the date with a daily mean of 69.5 F. 
    Only three December days have been warmer Dec 6th & 7th of 1998 and Dec 16th of 1971.  
    The lowest maximum temperature of 46  F for December occurred on the 19th 
    which is now the warmest December low maximum temperature on record; 
    the previous record was 45  F recorded in 2012.
    Richmond’s December minimum temperature was 25 F and tied the record set in 2011 & 1994.
    Richmond’s lowest daily mean temperature for December was 36.0 F which was the 2nd highest recorded in the past 118 years; 
    only 2011 was higher with 36.5  F.
     December didn’t even have a trace of snow which has happened approximately 15 times before 2015 since 1880.
     The 30-year average snowfall for December is 2.1 inches. 
    The 5.94 inches of precipitation for December made it the 8th wettest December in the past 128 years.  
    The total precipitation for the year was 49.21 inches which was a +5.61 inch surplus for 2015.
     The Airport also set 4 daily maximum temperature records and two high minimum temperature records.
