0	0032 hrs.	0	T	32.3	Precipitation started in the form of a very cold light rain.
1	0100 hrs.	T	0.01	32.1	A few particles of ice are mixed in with the rain and can be observed on the sky mirror.
2	0245 hrs.	0.1	0.05	31.6	The precipitation rate has been very light with only 0.04 inches of additional precipitation in 1 hour and 45 minutes. A very thin layer of ice has formed on the deck as all the rain that fell earlier has frozen and the precipitation is now mainly sleet. The street is still free of ice and sleet and is black. The radar is still out of service at Wakefield and the radar of Roanoke and Norfolk is over shooting the precipitation giving a deceptive image.
3	0315 hrs.	0.2	0.06	31.4	Still a very light precipitation rate but it is cold enough little is melting except on the street and driveway.
4	0615 hrs.	0.3	0.09	31.6	Currently Glen Allen has snow grains (also called granular snow) which is precipitation in the form of very small, white opaque particles of ice; the solid equivalent of drizzle. There is about 0.2 inches of sleet with only 0.1 inches of snow but more ice than snow explaining why 0.09 of liquid is giving such a small accumulation.
5	0800 hrs.	0.7	0.13	31.0	The precipitation has mainly been snow occurring during the past hour or so giving an increase in the accumulation rate. Snowflakes are now large and falling as aggregates of many crystals.
6	0900 hrs.	1.2	0.18	31.0	Light to moderate snow this past hour and the snow is beginning to cover the driveway with slush but the street is still black and clear of snow. The trees are becoming white and weighted with a wet snow accumulation.
7	1000 hrs.	2.2	0.28	31.1	Snowflakes are now large and falling as aggregates of many crystals. Moderate to heavy snow this past hour and the driveway is now white with snow and the street is also white except for tire tracks. The liquid amount was checked with a standing 4-inch gauge and 0.03 inches was added as the heater in the tripping bucket gauge evaporated that amount.
8	1100 hrs.	2.8	0.33	32.0	The snowflakes continue to be large and falling as aggregates of many crystals. Only light wind of less than 10 mph with this snowstorm so far makes measuring the snow easy if one has a snowboard. But without a snowboard it would be difficult as the grass is so high in most yards by this date in the spring. Snow is melting on the street and it is now slushy.
9	1200 hrs.	3.4	0.38	32.7	Moderate to heavy snow again this hour but melting is now occurring. This is particularly true of the street but snow still building up on trees and particularly on pine trees.
10	1300 hrs.	3.9	0.43	33.7	Moderate to heavy snow again this hour continuing but there is a break in the snow as seen on the radar approaching from the SW and will arrive during the next hour. The street is now black again even with the moderate to heavy snow due to the temperature increase of about 1°F. In the last 5 to 10 minutes of this period the snow rate has tapered to light again.
11	1400 hrs.	3.7	0.45	35.2	Even though the radar shows Glen Allen is in an area where there is a break in the snow there is still a light snow falling. The temperature is now much above freezing and the snowfall amount will continue to decrease from this point forward.
12	1500 hrs.	3.3	0.46	35.6	Glen Allen still has light snow flurries but the snow is melting faster than it is accumulating!
13	1620 hrs.	2.8	0.48	35.2	Most of the snow has even melted off the driveway. The total liquid precipitation so far is 0.48 inches with continued snow flurries that are melting as they fall to surfaces. The greatest accumulation was 3.9 inches at 1300 hours and the snow to liquid equivalent is 8.1 to 1.
